The Strange Case of the Steenkamp Triple Murders (Northern Cape)

Click here for the last posting on this tragedy, dated 15 March 2013, where readers can leave comments. (Comments are disabled in this post). The author of this blog is aware of the latest claims concerning the AWB's involvement in these murders as reported by the media on 31 October 2013. A response can be viewed here.

A Northern Cape farmer, Deon Steenkamp (44), his wife, Christelle (43), and daughter, Marthella (14), were murdered on their farm Naauwhoek near Griqua Town (Griekwastad) at about 18:00 on Friday. The farm is situated 10km out on the Niekerkshoop Gravel Road.

The 3 bodies were discovered in the living room by the couple's teenager-son, Don, who was not at the homestead at the time of the murders, but at a nearby barn on the property. (Various reports give Don’s age as either 15, 16 or 17-years.)

The following paragraph was sourced from farmitracker, who were one of the first online media sites to report the incident after receiving verification from a SA Police spokesman at Griekwastad:

According to a relative, Anneke Oberholzer, the family were sitting on the porch, chatting. The dad, mom and daughter wanted to view the Sewende Laan TV programme (which starts at 18:30)*** so the three went inside while Don walked to the barn. While there he heard shots and his little sister screaming hysterically. The boy realised it was a farm attack and hid until he heard things fall silent. He went into the homestead and found his parents murdered. His little sister died in his arms. He then drove off in the bakkie to find help. – Source (This was, I presume, a report Anneke Oberholzer heard directly from the sole survivor, Don Steenkamp)

The Sunday Rapport newspaper has the tragic incident on the their front-page today, with headlines stating, Seun op sy knieë: ‘Hul is almal dood’ (Boy on his knees: ‘They’re all dead’).

Now why would Rapport, all of a sudden, have this tragedy splashed on their front page? Is this liberal Afrikaans newspaper not normally inclined to publish stories of this nature somewhere inside their pages, whenever they feel like it? Is the front-page not usually reserved for stories about the ‘gods of sport’?

I’ll tell you why Rapport is doing this…

They’re doing this because there are several indicators pointing to the fact that the young Don Steenkamp may possibly be a suspect, or has not told the complete truth. The story thus has the potential of developing into a juicy drama with far-reaching consequences, and more than ever if it comes to light that this incident was not a typical farm murder but possibly a domestic tragedy of some sort.

The manner in which they’ve covered this story is very skilful strategy by Rapport, as nowhere do they explicitly say that this may not be a typical farm murder. However, the scanty info they’ve published will, no doubt, place suspicion in the minds of many readers. It is also strange that Rapport avoided using the headline, “Nog ‘n Plaasmoord!” (Another Farm Murder), or something to that effect, which tells me they know far more than what they’re prepared to publish at this point in time.

The ANC government wants to nail the lid on the coffin of farm murders once and for all, because many organisations, including Genocide Watch, have placed the blame squarely on savage racist blacks. 48 European parliamentary members from 19 member states representing 7 different political formations have also condemned these attacks and murders.

A group, who call themselves the “Geloftevolk Republikeine” (Covenant People Republicans), have already publicly announced that they intend committing vengeance attacks on black people if the farm murders, and the killing of white people in urban areas continue in South Africa. The government wants to nail this lot too!

What better way of nailing a lid on ‘thoughts of vengeance’ by exposing the fact that not all farm murders are committed by blacks, and that other factors can also play a role?

(as sourced from various media reports)

The predominate indicator is the fact that the son (Don) handed in two firearms at the police station when he went to report the matter. Reports mention that he found the two firearms at the farm-gate when he ran out of the homestead to get the bakkie, which he then drove to the police station. The two firearms were apparently a .357 Magnum revolver and a .22 rifle. (No criminal in his right mind will leave two firearms on the scene of a murder!)

These weapons will obviously carry vital forensic clues – i.e. if the clues were not contaminated too much by excessive handling.

The second indicator is the fact that police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Hendrick Swart, apparently stated that, “they were NOT looking for any suspects.” The statement was apparently made several hours after the incident, and after the sole survivor (Don) was questioned by the police for about two hours. The statement was also confirmed by OFM Radio.

Police officers were dispatched to the scene about 15 minutes after the incident was reported. A police helicopter joined the search for suspects about 1 hour later. Police officials from Kimberley also joined the search. Apparently no signs of any suspects were found (or the police are not saying anything). Any hope of arresting suspects will thus be aided by forensic evidence, which will obviously take time to analyse and interpret… BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT REFUSES TO PRIORITIZE THESE CRIMES!

There are a number of other minor indicators in the media that point to the fact that this incident may possibly not be a typical farm murder like all the others. However, no weighty assumptions can be made from them as preliminary reports do tend to contain errors, and so do the reports made by traumatized witnesses. For example, some of the reports state that Don Steenkamp did not hear any gun shots, while others say he did. The time the bodies were discovered is also sceptical: All Afrikaners (even teenagers) know 7de Laan starts at 18:30, yet Don told the police he found the bodies of his parents in the living room at about 18:00.***

If forensic trace evidence and other investigations, which point to the involvement of outsiders, do not shed some light on the matter very soon, then I’m afraid Don Steenkamp is going to be the prime suspect in this case and will most definitely be questioned some more. I doubt though that the police carried out sufficient (if any) forensic tests on Don to corroborate his version, and to finally eliminate (or confirm) him as a possible suspect. Bear in mind that performing certain forensic tests, such as primer residue and trace metal detection tests, will be futile when the subject’s hands have been washed or were contaminated with blood - as was the case with Don Steenkamp.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Steenkamp family and their close relatives and friends. I sincerely hope this crime will be resolved soon!

(Posted on 16 April @ 20:30)

Regarding the starting time of the TV soapy “Sewende Laan” on SABC 2 on Friday, 6 April 2012, the same day this tragedy occurred:

According to various sources a repeat of the previous show (Thursday 5 April) was screened at 15:00. Thereafter the usual Friday broadcast was televised, starting at the normal time of 18:30. The Afrikaans version of the magazine, “TV-PLUS”, covering the period 4 – 17 April 2012, is one of the many TV-guides that confirms this fact.

I agree totally on your overview of this incident. Your insight in this case is very interesting, and I am in agreement with you all the way.

" criminal in his right mind......." and you assume that type of logic will lead you to the answer.......

you are so wrong...I know Don personally, he would not murder his own family, we attend the same school and live in the same hostel. you can not make accusations like that!!

I’ve just noticed that Volksblad has published a few new reports on the incident. It’s all in Afrikaans though, and I don’t have the time at this hour to translate everything. The most relevant report mentions that Joe Scholtz, chairman of the Griekwastad-Agri-Hay-Farmer’s Association and Rural Safety Committee were one of the first people on the scene of the murders.

Scholtz mentioned that it was his task to secure and protect the scene (obviously with police assistance) and to make sure that nobody contaminates the scene. Although I doubt that he can be considered an expert on these matters, he is also of the opinion that this is no ordinary farm murder… (hierdie was geen gewone plaasmoord nie, sê mnr. Joe Scholtz)

Click here for the direct link to the article.

In another Volksblad article, Griekwastad se raaiselmoorde, published this evening at 21:12, it appears that the police already have the answers. Police spokesman, Col Hendrik Swart, again confirmed that the police are NOT searching for a suspect. We are looking at the available evidence, statements??? And other clues that were found on the scene.

Let’s wee what comes to light tomorrow.

@ Anonymous (11:04 PM)

Firstly, I also find this incident most upsetting. I cannot imagine how shocked poor Don must be!

Secondly, NOWHERE in this posting have I implied that Don murdered his family. The posting is pointing out that it’s THE MEDIA that has planted this idea in our heads.

At this point in time the lack of suspects and available scanty evidence points to a possible domestic tragedy of some sort. (I hope this is NOT the case)… Don may not even have been part of it, but discovered the bodies later and assumed that intruders were responsible.

Let’ hope that tomorrow sheds some more light on this case, and that the police share with us what they found on the scene.

It’s late… Goodnight all and God Bless!

@Tia so just because 1% of farm murders happen to be cases where race is not the driving factor behind the murders we can now come to the conclusion that genocide is not being committed?

South African black people feel so entitled to "their" land that they are willing to go to any lengths, including murder, to drive the "colonialists" off the land. If you try to sweet talk this fact away or dress it up as common robbery then you are part of the problem. Get that huge chip off your shoulder and stand up for what's right. 99% of farm murders are 100% racially motivated, with robbery used as an excuse to exterminate a nation. A few years back saw the first time that SA had to import basic foodstuffs like beef, mielie meal, and wheat thanks not only to land "redistribution" but also the systematic eradication of farmers. Your rubbish post attempts to look past all of that.

It's like saying, "oh look, that Jew killed that other Jew, so you see you can't blame it all on Hitler". Don't be a moron.

Ravensqarr said... .....Click here to refresh this blog

@Anonymous (4:18am) - I think you should read a few of the other pages on TIA MYSOA and perhaps this post should also be read again.

He is not sweet talking farm murders, it is our ANC controlled media that is being highlighted.

Rapport (MSM) is commenting on this (1%) murder that happened so that other (99%) farm murders can be justified as farmers killing their own/normal crime/psycosis etc. These (99%) can then be swept under the carpet and the ANC can shrug of responsibility.

All people in their right mind can see this genocide for what it is. Racial hatred towards whites for bringing civilisation to a continent that loves barbarism.

@tymysoa....regarding your bad atitude towards afrikaans in the volksblad, just ask me, I'm even fluent in xhosa. I will tell you what you want to know. You are so outspoken about this situation, but refuse to "sit and translate"...that's poor man. You know what anyone in their "right minds" or anyone who knows something about a murder investigation (you can even pick it up on CSI)...Don being a suspect is no special story and implies NOTHING!!! Its standard procedure. The surviving party will most likely always be a suspect. Just stay level headed, espesially if you intend to share your opinion.

South Africa is on edge, no doubt. What happened in Griekwastad is a tragedy. I can only hope and pray that the truth will prevail.

I feel ver sorry for Don, being that young and losing both your parents and your sister, what a sad day! I cannot believe people would consider him a suspect - do not know him myself but let's face it - two firearms, and he is only one person? why would he shoot his own family with two weapons? why would he even take them to the police if they are the murder weapons, no one would do that unless they are talking the truth! My heart goes out to this poor boy, i sincerely hope that he will find peace, | hope that God will carry him through this difficult time and that one day he will be able to sleep again. knowing the police, the case will probably just go cold, once again as with all the other cases and no one will be held responsible. Don God be with you, being left behind and not having all the answers is really tough, you still have a purpose in this world and although it seems that there is nothing left for you, stay strong!

@ Anonymous (8:04 AM)

The comment you’ve referred to was made late last night at 11:07PM. It says: “I don’t have the time at this hour to translate…” So it would appear then that YOU are the one with the bad attitude.

BTW… CSI is a load of crap!!!!!!!!

Philip Steenkamp said... .....Click here to refresh this blog

I don't care what your view on the matter is but to accuse Don is ridiculous. Put yourself in his shoes for a second. If your whole family was murdered, would you like others to post their opinion of what they believed happened all over the internet and to make matters worse their opinion includes blaming you for the murder? The boy has just lost his family have some respect!!!!! Please!!!!!

Anonymous said... .....Click here to refresh this blog

Hey man, maybe Don Steenkamp, young boy, a child, all possibilities should be looked at, maybe he could have been framed to make it look like he did it, a farm murder but they made him the fall guy, stool pigeon, the sucker who will take the wrap for it. I pray the police and justice will do their job well in this case and look at all possibilities.

Tia Mysoa said... .....Click here to refresh this blog

@ Phillip Steenkamp
Show me exactly where in this posting have I accused Don or blamed him for the murders. Does my previous comment in reply to Anonymous (@ 11:04 PM) not clarify my viewpoint on this?

You asked if I would I like others to post their opinion of what they believed happened all over the internet?”

If their opinions are based on what the media is implying, why not???… Or do you think only NASPERS journalists (and not bloggers) are qualified.

For the record…
I already know what happened on the scene, but I have withheld my opinion thusfar out of respect for the deceased and their family.

The media has already leaked the news that it was a family tragedy… meaning murders committed as a result of family domestic violence (if you read between the lines). It is now only a matter of establishing who shot who first.

Sorry if the truth hurts, but if you take time to read other articles on this blog you’ll find plenty of bare truths that really hurt.

Relax – no one is going to jail in this case… It will be handled as a normal inquest ( 3 inquests) and not murder. (I was a qualified Forensic Ballistic Expert for 18 years. Total service-period in the SA Police was 24 years.)

Give Don all the support and love he needs. Let’s hope this tragedy makes him stronger and not weaker!

Anonymous said... .....Click here to refresh this blog

I too know Don personally, and his dad, Deon, coached me at the Gimkana Federation tests last year. I find it extremely hard to believe that a 16-year-old boy - especially someone like Don - would murder his own family. Tia, I understand your point that no criminal would leave his gun behind, but why would Don make up such a story? Where would he find the weapons in the first place - without linking him directly to the murder? Furthermore, why kill his family? I do not think that we should jump to conclusions. The boy already has enough to deal with.

The latest news from Volksblad is here.

The police took statements from farm workers yesterday.

Col. Hendrik Swart said that the police have still not identified a suspect, hence the reason why they’ve not launched an extensive search yet.

(In other words… there were no suspect-fingerprints, or other clues, found on the two firearms, or on the scene of the crime.)

According to Swart the Post Mortem examinations are scheduled to take place on Wednesday, either in Kimberley or Bloemfontein. (Can they not find a qualified pathologist to do this sooner?)

Deon Steenkamp’s two sisters stated that the police were vague with their answers… I agree, they’re extremely vague and extremely slow!

Back in the ‘bad’ ol’ days when we were cops we worked 24/7 non-stop with cases of this nature, and especially when a whole community was traumatised and waiting for answers. Scenes were often kept protected for weeks on end until all evidence was thoroughly documented and collected. In countries like Australia, for example, crimes scenes like these are kept protected for months! In this specific case the crime scene was ‘cleaned-up’ on Saturday afternoon already – OND DAY after the murders???

I strongly doubt that a Pathologist and/or Police Ballistic Expert examined the scene while it was still fresh.

The public deserves answers from the official authorities ASAP.. Was this another senseless farm killing committed by savages, or was it a case of domestic violence and suicide?

There are some really sick people in this world!

I was quite surprised when I logged on this morning and noticed that an anonymous commentator had left a message on this page stating: “It is (sic) just been revealed that Don Steenkamp gave himself over. He needs our prayers and thoughts.”

The comment was posted today @ 9:37AM

All comments left on the blog are emailed to me, and are not normally moderated. In other words, when people post a message it gets published immediately. The reason why I allow this is because the blog is not administered 24/7. I always have the option of deleting posts (as I’ve now done!)

My first thoughts were that it was a bogus entry, made by someone who is either sick in the head, or who has intentions of damaging the credibility of this blog (plenty of those types around, believe me!) Nevertheless, I decided to check the validity of the statement and found no official sources, including reputable media sites, confirming the truth thereof.

I immediately deleted the entry and all others that were referring to it, and also disabled all new comments on the article.

Now that I’ll be spending the most part of the rest of my day multitasking on my computer, I’ve decided to re-enable comments. Comments will now be moderated before they appear on the page… I don’t think I need to explain why!

@Anonymous Firstly if my parents and sister were killed and I am not sure if the "murderers" are still around I will not stop to pick up the guns first secondly : if my sister is still alive I would call for an ambulance and not wait for her to die!!And correct me if I am wrong but it was freezing friday afternoon? Where is his clothes? And why does the story keep changing? And for that matter why did his family think it was neended to appoint a lawyer and a attorney? Innocent people do not need those!! I am sorry people might hate me for speaking my mind but this is my opinion.

This is deja vu. When the Lotter case first hit the headlines, the exact same things were said - until the shock revelation that the siblings murdered their parents.

I too smell a rat - Don is not telling the whole truth. He's contradicted himself with the time of the murders, he made the strange effort to "pick up" the weapons "left at the farm gate" (someone hysterical from having just seen his entire family killed won't easily notice guns lying at the gate).

And why rush to town? Why didn't he call the cops or raise the alarm via the Marnet radio as people would normally do? Why wasn't the house ransacked, as it usually is? He claims his sister died in his arms - why didn't he put her in the bakkie and race her to hospital?

Either Don's killed them, or he knows who did but isn't telling.

Here is your answer as to who "cleaned" up the crime scene.

To whom were the weapons found registered ?
Did they belong to this family ?
Surely pretty easy for the SAPS to get this information quickly ?

A tragic scenario.
I hope that the truth is not buried in a report that takes two years to come out.

The "guns"( please correct me if I am wrong) if I understood the news right ,was the fathers guns that was apparantly taken from the vault(no force entry)see what I am saying? it just does not make sense!

Tia Mysoa said... .....Click here to refresh this blog

According to police spokesman, Col. Hendrik Swart, and as reported yesterday by Nico Strydom - a journalist at Maroela Media, both firearms were registered in Deon Steenkamp’s name. The report can be viewed here.

It’s quite odd that the Naspers group of newspapers did not mention this important piece of info... (unless I maybe missed it)

Do not judge because you will be judged. Be merciful even as your Father is merciful. The key to forgiveness is receiving the person who disappointed and hurt you as would Jesus do. ‘Hou op gis oor die moorde’
Cristal-Lize - Thomas Die Burger

BLOEMFONTEIN.

This development (if true) speaks volumes. Ewald Kruger

Sewende laan begin eers half sewe. Geen verdagtes of enige stukkie bewys dat enige iemand anders as die gesin daardie dag by die huis was nie.

According to recent reports in the Volksblad, published online on 2012-04-11 @ 22:38 and 22:29 respectively, the bodies of the three deceased were apparently examined yesterday by pathologists for forensic evidence. Detectives from the Hawks were apparently also present.

The Volksblad news reports reveals no new developments in this case. Instead both reports appear to be typical Naspers / SA Police attempts at bewildering the public with dazzling bullshit. The public is not interested in all the technical and scientific details and the importance of a thorough Post Mortem examination. The public wants straightforward plain-and-simple answers.

From what I can deduce from these reports is that the police themselves are also totally baffled, and don’t have a cooking-clue what the hell happened at the scene of the murders, and who shot whom.

The links to the Volksblad reports I’m referring to are as follows:

Forensiese span fynkam Steenkamp-plaashuis

Waarom polisie swyg oor moorde

Take Note:

Another very important aspect of this case is the involvement of a 15-year old juvenile, as pointed out by Anon above @ 12:51 AM.

The Constitution of South Africa, in section 28, defines a child as a person below the age of 18. Section 28 also enshrines certain rights relevant to juvenile justice, which then apply to those below the age of 18: specifically, the right to be detained only as a matter of last resort. The media has reported that Don has already acquired the services of legal representatives (news report here). So what does this tell us?

Police deny focus on family in farm killings
April 10 2012 at 09:00am

Michael Mokoena

NORTHERN Cape police yesterday dismissed rumours that family members were being investigated for the murder of Deon Steenkamp, 41, his wife, Christelle, 40, and his daughter, Marthella, 14, who were all found dead on their farm Naauwhoek in the Griekwastad area on Friday night.

Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Hendrik Swart said the police were not investigating any family member in connection with the incident.

“We are currently investigating a case of murder and no one has been arrested yet. The discovery (of the bodies) was made by another member of the family, a 15-year-old-boy (Don Steenkamp), who was not in the house at the time.

André Visagie, leader of the Geloftevolk Republikeine, said the slayings reflected the vulnerability of white farmers.

He noted there had been eight farm murders in SA last week.

Hy was in skok.

“bewildering the public with dazzling bullshit.”

The story thus has the potential of developing into a juicy drama with far-reaching consequences, and more than ever if it comes to light that this incident was not a typical farm murder but possibly a domestic tragedy of some sort.”

Sorry to say the SAPS of today are completely politically compromised

What are we not being told

Why is any solid evidence being withheld from the public ?

This is looking more and more like the Eugene Terre'Blanche tragedy / mystery.

Does one ever really learn the truth ?

I am as baffled as everybody else about this case BUT......I was once a teenager standing with a gun in my hand ready to shoot my family.

By this I am not implying Don shot his family, he could be covering up for another family member but in my case my parents' blatant favoritism had driven me to thoughts of murder and suicide.

When you are 15 and have been subjected to parent favoritism of another sibling, it could trigger some strange emotions.

I had to learn to live with this treatment from my parents, which continues to this day. But I remember the Sunday afternoon I stood with the gun in my hands and they were chatting to my sister in the lounge after they took pictures of my father and sister in the garden but didn't ask me.........

Nobody on here should judge.

Amazing how all the comments relates to stupidity. After reading the main article of Tia Mysoa, I understood and realised that he is giving his insight only, also not blaming Don or accusing him.Why people get on blog's read only half and then start a stupid argument coz they can't read goes beyond me. Quote: The media has already leaked the news that it was a family tragedy… meaning murders committed as a result of family domestic violence (if you read between the lines). It is now only a matter of establishing who shot who first. PEOPLE should read... Thoughts and prayers are with the family and Don.

Regarding the starting time of the TV soapy “Sewende Laan” on SABC 2 on Friday 6 April 2012, the same day this tragedy occurred:

According to various sources a repeat of the previous show (Thursday 5 April) was screened at 15:00. Thereafter the usual Friday broadcast was televised starting at the normal time of 18:30. The Afrikaans version of the magazine, “TV-PLUS”, covering the period 4 – 17 April 2012, is one of the many TV-guides that confirms this fact.

My previous comments, and corrections made - based on ‘interpretations’ by anonymous commentators regarding this issue, have thus been removed.

I wish I could drive out to Don and sit with him and be his friend in this dark hour.

The whole world is crucifying him without knowing his side of the story.

This is one story that definitely had two sides to it. No kid will kill his parents if there wasn't some emotional abuse going on here.

Anonymous said... .....Click here to refresh this blog

If the boy murdered his family in cold blood then I'm afraid his side of the story becomes irrelevant.

Anonymous said... .....Click here to refresh this blog

If this is true...

How is it possible to kill your father, mother and sister (who apparently ran away trying to escape)in cold blood? No matter how difficult the relationship with his family was - it is for me unthinkable to commit a deed like this to the people closest to you. His parents lived for him and his sister - they were in two of the best schools in South Africa - I don't understand...

Maybe people should stop to assume? The truth will come out eventually and it seems if people don't have respect for the privacy and feelings of this family in this sad and painful time.

Who did it ? Why ?

Tia Mysoa said... .....Click here to refresh this blog

@Anonymous (5:37PM)
No offence taken… When I first started blogging, in December 2008, I actually believed this country was indeed Paradise on Earth. My very first post was called “Paradise Found”. At the time there were already several blogs that were trying to publicize positive things about this so-called ‘Rainbow Nation’ we live in.

As the years progressed these blogs gradually vanished from the scene. The award-winning “SARocks” was one of the leaders in the pack. However, its positive articles started dwindling soon after the 2010 Soccer World Cup. You can see the stats for yourself in their archives… December 2010 (1), April 2011 (3), May 2011 (2), June 2011 (1). The latest article is dated 20 October 2011… None for the year 2012. The same thing happened to all the other ‘goodnews’ blogs.

There are plenty of SA blogs out there that focus on a variety of subjects such as, sport, music, fashion, travel, photography, business and politics. I decided to blog about all these things, but focussed specifically on Africa (mainly Southern Africa, which includes Botswana and Zim).

People started to become a bit grouchy when some of my posts started integrating positive Christian viewpoints. In the end I separated these articles and started another blog called Tia4CHRIST, but that blog has been struggling along ever since, with an average of 120 visits per day, compared to this blog which averages about 1800 per day.

Feel free to explore this blog, I’m sure you’ll find some encouraging posts that will lead to constructive thoughts on how to make this country a better place. They say that “laughter is the best medicine”… Try exploring the Humour Posts, and try to relax a bit!

I am sure it is Don. The police are not that clueless. I feel very sorry for Don, however. It hurts very much to be compared to your sister and to be less loved. Don is still very young and it is difficult to think straight when you are that young and angry.

Tia Mysoa said... .....Click here to refresh this blog

@Anonymous (12:44 AM) and others…

I think it’s important that we respect the rights and privacy of this 15-year old child. As I’ve already stated above (April 12, 2012 1:32 AM) the Constitution of SA defines a child as a person below the age of 18 years.

One way of respecting these rights it by not mentioning the child’s name publicly. The ‘all-powerful’ Naspers group of newspapers has already violated these rights by publicly displaying videos of the child while he was attending a Church Service. What they did was an utter disgrace, and when I get the time I would like to write a separate article about this!

When a child comes into contact with the criminal justice system, the handling of the cases is quite different. They cannot be treated like adults. The child offender will firstly be thoroughly assessed, thereafter a whole lot of other factors will come into play. The criminal-justice system will have to make decisions that are in the best interests of the child, that ensure the safety of the community as a whole, and that also serve the interests of justice.

In this case a very serious crime has been committed by a juvenile. How the stuffed-up SA justice system is going to deal with it is anyone’s guess.

There’s an online pdf document available titled, “Resource Guide To a Proper Approach to Juvenile Offenders in the Regional Courts”. The document will give people an idea of the complexities involved in these cases. The download link is here (1.0 MB).

There are also several books available on the subject:

High Risk: Children Without A Conscience - ISBN: 9780553346671

Children Who Kill - Profiles of Teen and Pre-Teen Killers - ISBN: 9780749006938 (Published Nov. 2011)

I think we are all guilty of mentioning the child’s name, but then again we never expected that the young boy was involved in the killings.

On the other hand Naspers had prior knowledge of what the police were suspecting. I therefore agree, the videos Volksblad and OFM have circulated on youtube are perfect examples of contempt and utter disrespect.

Chris said... .....Click here to refresh this blog

@Tia - I haven't read any of your other blog posts before, so this question might have been addressed before, but why do you hate the Naspers group so much? Do you work work for one of their competitors?

Tia Mysoa said... .....Click here to refresh this blog

@Chris – No, I don’t work for any media group. An Afrikaans-speaking anonymous commentator @April 12, 2012 12:48 PM has also touched on the subject, and basically took the words out of my mouth.

In short it boils down to this…

The main-stream media (msm) have almost perfected the art of manipulating and influencing the minds of their readers. It is called a media-PSYOPS and involves clever manipulation of truthful facts. This blog (including several others) has spoken thereof on a number of occasions in the past. The Afrikaans Naspers group are particularly active and have many years experience in this regard.

Readers who are interested in learning more about this phenomenon are welcome to start here on one of the older articles on this blog, or go directly to the Wikipedia page that deals with this.

Another example of this PSYOP… Maybe you can recall the time when the government started with the new firearm legislation, urging people to hand in their guns. All of a sudden Naspers started publishing several news articles of gun-related accidents and the negligent use of firearms… It carried on for months! They were all truthful articles, but in the end it achieved the desired results… People handed in their firearms by the 100000’s. It was exactly what the government wanted to achieve.

Chris said... .....Click here to refresh this blog

So what you're basically saying is that the Naspers group is controlled by the ANC, actively working against white South Africans. So every time they publish a big story like this they first have a secret meeting with the ANC to see how they can spin it to promote the ANC's cause?

No offense, but if you know anything about Koos Bekker (the CEO of Naspers) or if you have ever heard him speak then you'll know just how ridiculous this sounds.

So how would you have liked Rapport to report this story then? No matter how/where they publish it, there will always be people with some conspiracy theory.

Tia Mysoa said... .....Click here to refresh this blog

@Chris - You asked a question and I provided one as concisely as possible. Unfortunately I don’t have the time to go into all the nitty-gritty details, except to say - there’s a reasons why they call it a “psyops”. Did you ever visit the links I provided?

I’m no big fan of modern-day conspiracy theories either, as I believe they oversimplify history. The ANC, for example, has been driven by their own conspiracy theory - firmly believing that a secret Brotherhood of Afrikaners (Broederbond), were in a conspiracy with the National Party (NP), the NG Church, and numerous other supporting- and front organizations, and that they collectively conspired to oppress the Blackman and to exercise control through the policies of apartheid.

Whatever the case, Rapport and their Naspers sisters now operate under the yoke of a new ruler, and when a bunch of right-wing fanatics threaten to kill 30 blacks for every farmer murdered, then buttons get pushed very quickly to utilize the first available opportunity to dampen down their bitter resentment, which on the face of things appears all noble and good. BUT then the same incident is utilized to further other dubious agendas, which I hope to explain in greater detail, in a separate posting, once this matter has been officially finalized.

Take care, and thanks for visiting these pages…
Stay tuned!

It’s really sad to see that people don’t know the difference between someone who is a “suspect” and someone who is a “killer”. Of course the young boy is considered a “prime suspect”. The media AND the police are BOTH guilty of painting that picture, despite the fact that it is now becoming quite obvious the police have inadequate or zero concrete evidence to link him to the murders.

(Volksblad 2012-04-18)

Nou sê vandag se Rapport, by woorde van Kapt.

Anonymous said... .....Click here to refresh this blog

Hierdie Moorde spook dag en nag by my ook.

Tia Mysoa said... .....Click here to refresh this blog

During 1986 the ANC launched an underground operation called Operation Vula. A lesser-known fact is that it continued to operate after Nelson Mandela's release in February 1990, and for three years after his speech in August 1990 when he reiterated the total commitment of the ANC, Umkhonto we Sizwe and the SACP to the Groote Schuur Minute.

Heritage Day Photographs (Voortrekker Monument) - Sept. 2013
This posting includes a few photographs taken on Heritage Day 2013. The posting introduces an unusual but beautiful new structure called QUO VADIS? (with the question mark) which I’m sure many readers have never heard of.

The Yellow-Bucket Marula Tree: A Mystery Solved! - Oct. 2013
I came across a rather strange phenomenon one day while travelling along the R561 route between Tolwe and Baltimore in the Limpopo province of South Africa. A small yellow bucket was attached high-up in a branch of a Marula tree, hence the name of this posting. It’s a real funny story which I’m sure most readers will enjoy - as much as I enjoyed compiling the article  - (with illustrations).

Pretoria’s Monument for Victims of Terrorism - July 2013
Many people (including myself) had almost forgotten about a noteworthy monument in Pretoria that stood at the entrance of the old Munitoria building on the corner of Van der Walt and Vermeulen Streets (now renamed Lilian Ngoyi and Madiba Streets). When the Munitoria building was demolished on 7 July 2013 nobody could tell me whether the monument was still standing or not, so I decided to go look for myself.

Remembering The Battle of Delville Wood - July 2013
14 July marks a day when the South African 1st Infantry Brigade got engaged in the 1916 (WW1) Battle of the Somme, in France. The battle was one of the largest of World War I, in which more than a million men were wounded or killed, making it one of humanity's bloodiest battles. One specific encounter during this battle, known as The Battle of Delville Wood, is of particular importance to South Africa. The posting includes a comprehensive article (with pictures) compiled and written by Petros Kondos.
