The gang of robbers then fled in a Toyota Quantum minibus and entered the Menlyn Park Shopping Centre, where (I presume) they hoped to vanish among the crowds. The shopping centre and surrounding area was completely cordoned off by a multitude of policemen, armed to the teeth. The National Police Commissioner, Bheki Cele, also visited the scene.
Police combed the colossal Menlyn Mall floor by floor and eventually apprehended three black African suspects. Two other suspects apparently escaped and are still on the run… (at time of posting). It is unknown how the other two escaped.
A neighbour who works for First National Bank (FNB) has just informed me that the FNB branch at Menlyn was apparently also robbed. Full details are sketchy, but I’m sure we’ll get the full story tonight on the 7 o’clock news.
