Employment Equity Curse


I have decided to publish the content of an email I sent to the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development regarding various vacant posts recently advertised in the national press. Except for a “Read Receipt” which was automatically generated, no reply was ever received. This is but one example of many attempts to apply for work in a South African government department, without success. The fact that they do not even bother to reply or send a simple courtesy note, speaks for itself! My own conclusions are summarized at the end of this posting. I noticed that your department is advertising various posts in the national press. I am particularly interested in the position as IT Coordinator (Ref: 08/401/ISM), which was advertised on Sunday, 9 November 2008.

My predicament is as follows:
I was previously employed in the Public Service for nearly 24 years, and accepted the government severance package in May 2001. I need to know whether or not, my voluntary discharge in 2001 still prohibits me from being re-employed in the Public Service.

I will appreciate your advice and/or guidelines regarding this issue.

MY OWN CONCLUSION:

You need not bother to apply for this post, because you have the wrong skin colour.
Firstly, the Department of Justice is an equal opportunity employer.
Secondly, the Employment Equity imperatives as defined by the Employment Equity Act, 1998 (Act No. 55 of 1998) and relevant HR policies of the Department have been taken into consideration. You do not fall into the category of “disabled” or “previously disadvantaged”. You will pay for the sins of your father while remaining a citizen of this country. I suggest you pack your bags and emigrate!

Pretoria’s Monument for Victims of Terrorism - July 2013

14 July marks a day when the South African 1st Infantry Brigade got engaged in the 1916 (WW1) Battle of the Somme, in France. The battle was one of the largest of World War I, in which more than a million men were wounded or killed, making it one of humanity's bloodiest battles. One specific encounter during this battle, known as The Battle of Delville Wood, is of particular importance to South Africa.
